A wonderful site! I have found my POWELL (of Berkeley/Newport) family recorded from 1799 through to 1833. Am trying to establish marriage of William POWELL to Elizabeth (unknown) but marriage probably about 1798 and possibly in the Cam area.

William POWELL was a tailor (shopkeeper) in Berkeley in 1823. His surviving children (vaccinated against cowpox by Henry Jenner) were:

Caroline 1804-1881 (m George BIRT)
Thomas 1808-1878 plumber/glazier in Chipping Sodbury
Elizabeth/Betsy 1822-1873) unmarried

Interested in any links with this family.

I have been browsing through this excellent website since 2005 and have found it to be extremely useful. I am researching the Beckington family (variants Beckerton, Bickerton) located in Thornbury, Oldbury and Littleton-upon-Severn during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries (family of my Gr. Gr. Grandfather b. 1799) and their connections to the Collins, Cox, Day, Hancock, Morgan, Parnell and Pritchard families. Any info would be helpful.

My great grandmother Charlotte Morgan was born in Bristol 1862 but raised by her grandparents Thomas Morgan (1808-1871) a chimney sweep and Charlotte Morgan (1812-1898 nee Pritchard) a nurse in Thornbury. They lived on Mutton lane. From research I believe that Hannah Morgan (1836-1906) daughter of Thomas and Charlotte was my great grandmother's mother, however I do not have any leads regarding my great grandmother's father. Therefore apart from the information I have discovered at this excellent site, does anyone have any leads that may help me discover my great grandmother's Father or any information regarding the Morgan family in general in Thornbury.

many thanks

I have been researching my wife's CHARLES family tree, and have noted that there is/was a family by the same name residing in the Berkeley area. The earliest I have been able to establish "Charles" family is as follows:
THOMAS CHARLES was born 1788 in Hundred of St Briavels, and died 29 Jan 1868 in Oldcroft, Glos. He married MARY WELLING 26 May 1811 in Newland, Gloucestershire. She was born 1789 in Hundred of St Briavels, and died 17 Dec 1872 in Oldcroft, Glos.

Bearing in mind that Oldcroft became the local seat of the CHARLES family and that the village lies just across the Severn from Berkeley has anyone made a connection?

Super Site!!

I have traced my family back on both my parents side to the Thornbury area. I know that one of my great great great grandfather's Giles Pritchard was born abt 1811 in the Thornbury area and married a Sarah also born in Thornbury abt 1812. I have found records of their children's christenings on this site but no record of them. Does anyone have any information on Giles & Sarah Pritchard. From 1841 census they were living at Cowhill near Oldbury on Severn.

He was born around 1801 and married in Hill 1831 does anyone know that if Parents aren't showing on the Scribes entry will they be on document held in Glos Records Office?

Hi Ann
I don't know anything about Whitfield. I haven't visited the area yet.
Thomas Luce Thomas was born in 1806. His parents were George Thomas b1765 at Morton, Thornbury & Hester Luce b 1767 at Oldbury on Severn. Hester was the daughter of John Luce & Elizabeth Saunders. Her sister Martha was my 4 x greatgrandmother.
