I was told by my parents we( Pritchards) came from Swansea-not so, we were Cabinet makers in Bristol in the 19C, before that Thornbury. I have found some really useful facts from your website, thanks. How can I follow them up in the parishes? Henry Pritchard, Marlborough

My greatgrandfather was Thomas Howell, a Master Builder and Mason, born Thornbury 1825. On your site I found an old advertisement for his son Frank K Howell (my greatuncle), also a monumental mason. Is it possible to copy this? At Thornbury Baptist Church we found an old gravestone on which the only clear wording was the name of the mason - Frank K Howell! Thank you for a brilliant site.

When I discovered this site I was able to open a treasure chest of info! Not only my Mother's family(Welch, Cook, Gough, Birt, Lanfear) but my Dad's side (Parsons, Thorne) and together with Thornbury Roots have a wonderful picture of residences and occupations of my forebears. And free! Can't thank you enough.

Researching my husband's family - Wm Jones & Anne White who emigrated to Australia from Thornbury in 1853, but this has led to Cullimore's, Wetmore's, Cox's and beyond. A great website - very helpful when we are unable to actually get local information. One question someone may be able to help with. Wm & Anne were married at St John's Parish Church, Elberton. My mother & sister took photos of this church for us in the 1980's but when we visited in 1998 were told there was no church in Elberton.
